Polka Dot Birthday Party

We celebrated Kate's first birthday on Saturday, January 30. It fell right after the first snow storm of the year, so my family wasn't able to make it due to the icy roads. We missed having them here, but we still had a great time celebrating with Grandfather Ron, Grandmother Kala, Aunt Kami and some of our dearest friends. Thanks to everyone who made the trek through the ice and snow to celebrate with us.

Kate's nursery is decorated with polka dots on one wall and on her bedding, so I decided to go with that theme for her first birthday. Grandmother, Aunt KK and I had fun cutting out lots of circles to hang from the light fixtures, on the front door and in the kitchen, which we affectionately called "party central" thanks to KK. :)

A local bakery made a beautiful polka dot cake for her. We also had a fruit bowl of melon balls and grapes and a bowl of mini vanilla wafers. Do you see the round theme here? Kate loved the icing on her cake. She didn't ever get a taste of the cake because the icing was so thick. I had to make her stop eating it for fear that she'd have a terrible stomach ache from all the sugar. Of course right at the end she put her hand on the flower clip that was in her hair. She loves to put her messy hands in her hair at every meal!

Our friend Carissa took pictures for us. Thanks Carissa! We appreciate and love you guys so much.
